Founded in May 1948 by Phyllis Wallbank, a pioneer of educational development, in the gatehouse of St Bartholomew the Great Priory Church, West Smithfield. The School was then a pioneer of much that is now generally accepted in education. Gatehouse is now located in Sewardstone Road close to Victoria Park, where it continues to follow the educational philosophy of Phyllis Wallbank.
