Abbey is an independent Nursery and Primary School in Torquay, where small classes, specialist teaching and a strong sense of community allow children to be known, valued and encouraged to thrive. We believe childhood should be full of opportunities. Alongside strong academic foundations, our children are encouraged to discover what they enjoy and what they’re good at — whether that’s in the classroom, in the swimming pool, on the sports field, on stage or somewhere they hadn’t expected.

Abbey School is an inclusive school where children with SEND are valued as part of the whole school community. We recognise that every child develops differently and aim to identify additional needs early, providing appropriate support to help each pupil thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
Our dedicated SENDCo works closely with teachers, support staff, families and external professionals to identify needs, coordinate provision and monitor children's progress. Support follows a graduated approach and may include adaptations within the classroom, targeted small-group or individual interventions, speech and language support, literacy and numeracy interventions, fine motor and social skills work, and individualised programmes.
We place particular importance on working in partnership with parents and listening to pupil voice. Children's progress and provision are regularly reviewed, with families involved in agreeing appropriate targets and next steps.
Where more specialist support is required, we work with external professionals and the Local Authority and can support children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), subject to the school being able to meet the individual child's needs.
