The Independent Schools Council (ISC) is a membership association made up of schools within membership of one of the five Heads’ associations. ISC is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, registered with Companies House (registered number 1103760).

This privacy notice is intended to cover data collected by ISC during the Annual Census.

What we collect and what we use it for

When you complete the survey the member of staff submitting it will provide the following personal data: - Name - Email address

We use this information to contact you in the event we have queries about your school’s Census data submission.

The Census collects the following personal data for the Head(s); Bursar/Business Manager; Chair of Governors; Examinations Officer; Marketing Manager and head of sixth form:

  • Full Name including title
  • Email address

We use the head’s details to contact them with a variety of ISC communications throughout the year. We use the bursar’s details to contact them with a variety of ISC communications throughout the year relating to financial management. We may use the chair of governors’ details to contact them with issues relating to school governance. We use the exam officer’s details to contact them with communications relating to exam data collection. We use the marketing manager’s details to contact them with information relating to school marketing and strategy. We use the head of sixth form for collecting data related to progression to higher or further education

Some questions on the census, such as the State School Partnerships Impact Statement, require the school to enter free text. We do not collect any personal data in these fields and advisory notices will be added to each of these questions not to include personal data of any kind.

ISC schools must highlight this disclosure of information to the ISC in their own privacy notices.

Sharing your data

We will not share your data with others. Your information will not be used for marketing purposes.

Lawful basis under GDPR and retention

ISC is relying on ‘legitimate interests’ to hold your data as you have provided your data in order to take part in the annual census. Processing this data is in the legitimate interest of the ISC, the independent school sector, ISC associations and ISC schools. We will keep your contact data for one year. If you would like these details to be removed, please email [email protected] or write to The Independent Schools Council, Second Floor 23 Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6LB to have your details removed.

What we collect and what we use this data for

Contributions for use in ISC media/communications may include some or all of the following: - Images of school staff and/or pupils - Full names of school staff and/or pupils - Job titles of school staff - Ages of pupils

Information and images will be used in one or more of the following ISC media and internal/external communications. - Press releases - ISC website - Social media – Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn - Printed publications and marketing materials

Sharing your data

Data contained in ISC press releases will be publicly visible on the ISC website. Press releases are issued to media contacts at national, regional and trade publications, who have editorial freedom to publish the information. Data may also be shared via ISC’s social media channels - Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. ISC’s printed publications are sent to schools within membership of an ISC constituent association (one copy per school). A smaller number of copies are printed to share with third party stakeholders or influencers met during the course of ISC’s sector promotion and public affairs work. Your information will only be shared in the ways outlined in this notice.

ISC is relying on consent to hold this information as you have provided your data for use in ISC media/communications. Press releases remain on the ISC website for historical archiving purposes. Unused printed publications will be destroyed or recycled after 12 months. You can choose to withdraw your consent at any time by emailing [email protected] or writing to the Independent Schools Council, Second Floor, 23 Buckingham Gate, London SW1E 6LB.
