'The loss of any independent school has a huge impact', warns ISC CEO

ISC chief executive Julie Robinson has warned that ministers are still underestimating the effect of Labour's VAT on fees policy on school closures.

Following the admission by Treasury minister Torsten Bell that around 100 independent schools will be forced to close over three years as a result of VAT on fees, Ms Robinson told the Daily Mail: "It is frustrating to discover the government has been planning in private for what it rejected in public.

"The loss of any independent school has a huge impact: for local employment, businesses and, most importantly, families.

"This tax on education will not raise money, not benefit state schools and not improve outcomes for children."
