Teach First 'losing talented graduates to independent schools'

 

Teach First, a charity established to fast-track 'high-flying' students into teaching careers after university, has reportedly experienced a 20 per cent fall in expected recruitment. According to the charity, the shortages have been particularly acute for graduates in subjects such as maths and science, where salaries in the independent sector have 'risen sharply'. Strikes: Teaching unions call on education secretary to make 'concrete pay offer'

 

Union leaders have said that the education secretary, Gillian Keegan, needs to issue a “concrete” pay offer for teachers in order to avoid further strikes going head at schools in England. Ms Keegan is meeting with the leaders of unions representing teachers and headteachers today in an attempt to resolve an ongoing dispute over pay. By Eleanor Busby, The Independent.

A new pay offer for teachers in Scotland has been agreed by council leaders. Extra funding is being provided by the Scottish Government, which says it has found £156 million to pay for a two-year deal. By Glenn Campbell, BBC News.

Teacher calls on parents to discuss Andrew Tate with their sons

 

In a piece for The Guardian, English teacher and writer Lola Okolosie urges parents to talk to their sons about Andrew Tate. Recommending a continual rather than one-off conversation, Ms Okolosie encourages parents to listen as well as tell, warning that "schools alone can’t do the necessary work of preparing pupils for the world they are living in".

Almost all childcare providers are set to increase prices this year, survey suggests

 

A survey by the Early Years Alliance of 1,156 childcare providers has found that nine out of 10 nurseries expect to increase their fees this year by an average of eight per cent, which is higher than in previous years. By Tamara Cohen, Sky News.
