Additional Information
Bruton School for Girls was named in the top 4 schools nationally for A Level results in The Telegraph's league tables (for smaller independent schools 2017). In 2016 it was the top performing school across Somerset and Dorset for the Attainment 8 measurement at GCSE (DfE data published Jan 2017).
There is a range of scholarships available at the discretion of the Headmistress and the Governors’ Awards Committee, for girls entering Senior 1 (11+), Senior 3 (13+) and the Sixth Form who demonstrate outstanding talent or achievement in Music, Drama, Art, Sport or Academic Studies. All Round scholarships are available at 11+ and 13+.
Scholars may receive between 5% and 10% tuition fee remission for the duration of their attendance at Bruton School for Girls. The allocation of a scholarship is affected not only by the standard of the candidate’s application, but also the number and quality of other successful applicants. Please note that families in receipt of the HM Armed Forces Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) are not eligible to receive any financial remission. However, candidates may be awarded an Honorary Scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded purely on merit and are independent of parental financial circumstances. Should families feel able to decline the monetary reward associated with a scholarship, the money released will be used to attract other talented pupils.
All awards are conditional upon good scholastic and discipline standards being maintained. Girls will be expected to set a positive example and contribute enthusiastically towards the life of the school. Scholarships are awarded on the merit of the pupil and are subject to the condition of the award. It is an expectation of all scholarship awards that the scholar will complete her Sixth Form education at Bruton School for Girls. Applications are invited for all scholarships available. However, the awards offered in a given year are at the discretion of the Headmistress and Governors.
Scholarship candidates must sit the Scholarship Assessments, in addition to our own entrance assessments (or Common Entrance if applicable) and will be interviewed by the Headmistress and Deputy Head and where appropriate, the relevant Head of Department.
Those candidates who are applying for scholarships in Art or Sport will also be asked to produce a portfolio, while Drama and Music candidates will be asked to perform at an audition. Candidates should include a reference from their current school or copies of school reports with the application form. References for Sixth Form applicants should also include their predicted GCSE grades.
