Writing in The Times, Sir Anthony Seldon, author, historian, former headteacher, and founding director of Wellington College Education, argues that artificial intelligence (AI) is both the biggest opportunity for education and the greatest threat to young people’s mental health, safety and intellectual development. Calling for ministers to intervene, he says: "We must act quickly. The biggest risk of AI is not that it pulls the plug on humanity but that, without rapid government intervention, it will choke and not liberate the minds of our young people. We can wait no longer." 

Sir Anthony's comments, which follow a publication co-authored with technology entrepreneur Tim Bunting calling for the Department for Education to establish a "rapid response team" to "revolutionise" its approach to the sector, have also been covered by Jessica Coates in The Independent.

Five pupils from Kent are hoping to inspire the next generation of girls to enter the field of robotics when they represent Great Britain in an international competition. The Year 10 and 11 students from The Folkestone School for Girls have been selected for the First Global Challenge in South Korea, which will see robots completing tasks linked to tackling wildfires. The group was selected through an application process to represent the country at the First Global Challenge, an Olympics-style robotics competition for young people, with more than 190 countries set to participate in the event next month.
