Recent changes to Tier 4
Schools that are sponsors should read the guidance and table of changes carefully.
- Clarification that Tier 4 students cannot study at state schools.
- Clarification on the application of the existing rules on time limits in the UK and how they count towards the maximum time permitted under Tier 4.
- Clarification of the requirements when a sponsor applies to add a site, teaching partnership or exceptional arrangement to its sponsor licence. This includes a requirement that sponsors have a contractual agreement for teaching partnerships.
- A new definition of what constitutes a foundation course and the prevention of students studying a foundation course (to prepare for entry to higher education) under the Tier 4 Child category. Schools might like to consider whether some of their courses meet this definition and whether they should consider adding Tier 4 General to their licence.
