Early Years Foundation Stage framework
Earlier this year ISC reported that the new EYFS document, which is effective from September 2014, has been published. See the new EYFS framework and a note with a summary of the main changes produced by Foundation Years. Statutory Framework for the EYFS changes 2014
Management of independent schools
The government has published their consultation response to the management of independent schools and proposed regulations consultation.
Independent inspectorates: regulations and advice
The government has published the final form of advice regarding the approval of independent inspectorates, including ISI, together with a summary of consultation responses and the government’s response.
DfE has published two documents concerning the statutory duty to provide careers guidance to all pupils in years 8-13 which is applicable to maintained schools. The duty does not apply to independent schools, however some may find it to be a useful guide as it sets out what the government currently considers to be best practice. See the guidance and the advice for schools.
DfE template consent form
DfE has published a template consent form to cover a child’s participation in any school activity that needs a higher level of risk management or that takes place outside school hours. It is suggested that schools can ask parents or guardians to sign this form when they first enrol their child. Schools may therefore find it useful when creating their own template consent form.
School Admissions Code
DfE is currently consulting on the School Admissions Code. Whilst the Code is not applicable to independent schools, it contains a restriction on naming independent schools as feeder schools. ISC has lobbied for some time to have this removed and will respond to the consultation.
