DfE Consultation on Independent School Inspectorates

The Department for Education has launched a consultation on the regulation of ISI and the other independent inspectorates in England. Also see updates on changes to regulatory regime and DfE’s research priorities.

DfE Consultation on Independent School Inspectorates

DfE are proposing to introduce regulations and advice to make the approval of independent inspectorates more transparent. Responses are invited from independent inspectorates, Ofsted, independent schools and independent school associations/representative bodies.

Changes to the regulatory regime for independent schools in England

Lord Nash wrote to Graham Stuart MP on Friday 28 March 2014 setting out a description of the government’s intentions regarding changes to the regulatory regime for independent schools in England.

Key points to note include the consultation on the regulation of ISI and the other independent inspectorates, launched on 28 March 2014 and open until Friday 16 May 2014 and proposed forthcoming changes to the Independent School Standards for likely implementation in January 2015. The key proposed change to the Standards is the new leadership, management and governance standard, although there are other textual changes.

DfE’s Research Priorities by Policy Area

Aimed to help ensure improvements to education and children’s services are informed by evidence. DfE has published a suite of Research Priority and Question Papers which set out what the department thinks the important research questions are across their key policy areas.

DfE want to make its research prioritisation more transparent and more collaborative: joining up with a wider range of people and organisations to discuss what the research priorities for education and children’s services should be and how the gaps can best be filled.
