1. Purpose
The over-riding purpose of CAL is to promulgate the collective vision and strategy for leadership training within the Independent Schools Sector.
To promote effective leadership training, making it available to all within the sector, and easily accessible via the leadership hub on the ISC website.
To retain the individuality that currently exists within each Association, whilst looking to benefit collectively from one another’s expertise.
To monitor and review the balance of leadership training provision and together with all Associations, to address any gaps by increasing the range of training available
To encourage effective succession management within schools by supporting the development of effective leadership skills through promotion of training opportunities in the independent sector.
To facilitate links with other providers of leadership training.
2. Governance
CAL reports to the Executive Committee of each Association.
The Chair and Deputy are elected by the committee. A member of the Committee will Chair PDO meetings.
3. Membership
Associations* come into membership by invitation and pay an initial membership fee so that they can be represented on the Committee and at PDO meetings. There is no annual subscription but occasionally, the Committee may request further funding, by agreement, to support specific projects.
4. Frequency
CAL will meet termly. In addition, the Chair of the Committee may ask the Committee or a subsection of the Committee to meet or undertake work on behalf of the CAL group.
5. Quorum
The quorum necessary for the purposes of the Committee shall be 5 members.
6. Decisions of the Committee
Any decision of the Committee shall be taken on a majority basis by its members. The Chair shall have a casting vote in the event of equality of voting. Should a member be unable to attend the meeting, it is anticipated that the PDO will represent them in their absence.
7. Terms of Office
Length of service as a representative on the CAL Committee will be at the discretion of the Association.
