ISC Universities Survey: Offers & Rejection Rates

Since the Laura Spence case in 2001 potential discrimination in university admissions has been a contentious issue. In 2002, independent schools, under the aegis of the HMC/GSA universities sub-committee, decided to collect data on acceptances and rejections for students from the sector so that this fraught debate could be discussed on the basis of hard data rather than second hand anecdotes from disgruntled parents and schools. In 2005, responsibility for producing this survey moved to ISC. In 2006, the scope of the survey was massively increased by collecting UCAS data directly from schools. This allowed ISC to build a database of 67,530 applications to 4,206 courses at 226 universities from 153 schools - by far the biggest database of its kind outside of UCAS. The number of participating schools is expected to rise even further in the future.
