ISC sends letter to the Independent
21 August 2008
The Independent Schools Council's Acting Chief Executive, Matthew Burgess has sent a letter to the Independent in response to the Independent's 'Leading private schools boycott 'meaningless' league tables' story.
Sir,
Your report (Leading private schools boycott 'meaningless' league tables, 21 August) could mislead readers by implying the Independent Schools Council (ISC) itself produces league tables. This is not the case. On Saturday the ISC will publish aggregate results for member schools and list individual school results But it is the newspapers themselves who rank schools and produce the league tables. We recognise the sensitivity and concerns of some schools about these league tables and therefore give them the option to opt out of having their results published individually. We aim to produce the best possible analysis of how the independent sector as a whole performed at A levels.
Matthew Burgess,
Acting Chief Executive, ISC
