ISC sends response to the Mail
13 March 2008
The Independent Schools Council's General Counsel Matthew Burgess has sent a letter to the Mail in response to the 'Private schools threated court action over being forced to fund places for working-class children' story.
Letter to the Mail
Sir
In your article you mention the shifting of funds from scholarships to bursaries. This is something which ISC fully supports, and which schools are pursuing. It is misleading to suggest that schools with more resources for bursaries and scholarships are "more charitable" than schools with less. Fee-paying schools work immensely hard to fulfil a charitable purpose. Our schools can and do offer far more to the community than bursaries and financial assistance towards fees.
