Dick Davison to leave ISC

17 May 2005

Dick Davison is leaving the Independent Schools Council after 16 years in charge of media relations for the Council and, before that, for the Independent Schools Information Service (ISIS).

A former chief press officer for the Inner London Education Authority, Davison is leaving in mid-July to pursue other interests in education and journalism. He became deputy director of ISIS, in charge of press and PR, in 1989, subsequently becoming joint director. When the Independent Schools Council and its information services were reorganised in 2004, he became director of communications.

He said: "After 16 years in a fascinating job, in daily contact with schools, with journalists and with parents, it is time to move on. I look forward to continuing to work with many friends and former colleagues but also to tackling new challenges before decrepitude sets in."

Thanking Dick for his immense contribution, Jonathan Shephard, ISC General Secretary, said "Dick leaves ISC with the best of good wishes. We will miss his kindly presence, his unrivalled fund of knowledge, and his warmth and humanity. I am grateful to Dick for all his help over the past year, and for giving me notice of his plans long in advance, so that ISC has been able to plan for the succession to what will be a hard act to follow".
