Chris Parry CBE to open ISC Annual Conference on 3 June

2 May 2008

The Independent Schools Council (ISC) is delighted to announce that its new Chief Executive, Chris Parry, will open the ISC Annual Conference. Chris, who joined ISC this week, will outline his vision for the sector in the Opening Address on 3 June 2008.

Commenting today on the Annual Conference, Chris said:

"The Opening Address at the Annual Conference will set the tone for the two day event. It will enable me to introduce myself to hundreds of heads, bursars and governors, and outline my vision for the sector. We have some excellent sessions lined up for the conference, focusing on public benefit, research, press and many current legal and leadership issues. The ISC Annual Conference brings the sector together with one strong voice and I am thrilled to be involved with it this year."

Notes to Editors

Independent Schools Council (ISC)
The Independent Schools Council (ISC) is a politically independent, not-for-profit umbrella body, representing around 1300 independent schools educating more than 500,000 children in the UK and Ireland. ISC schools include the well-known boarding schools, though the majority of ISC schools are day schools with strong local reputations. ISC schools cover the entire academic range and take pupils from a broad cross-section of backgrounds, with nearly a third of children receiving help with fees. Overall, ISC exists to promote choice, diversity and excellence in education; the development of talent at all levels of ability; and the widening of opportunity for children from all backgrounds to achieve their potential.

Our events
Our conferences are known for providing a vital platform for high-level educational debate between expert speakers and enthusiastic academic audiences. They are closely followed by the British and international media, as we often showcase new research, innovative ideas and, most importantly, solutions to problems affecting the UK education sector. Since the first ISC Annual Conference in 2006, over 130 speakers have given their time to ISC conferences, including: Dame Suzi Leather (Charity Commission), Boris Johnson MP, Robert C Enlow (Friedman Foundation, USA), Sir Mike Tomlinson (The Learning Trust), Prof Usha Goswami (University of Cambridge), Hon. Dominic Cermele (Girard College, USA), Baroness Sharp of Guildford, Dame Maureen Brennan (Hillcrest School) and Anders Hultin (Kunskapsskolan, Sweden).

2008 ISC Annual Conference
This essential two-day event, takes place on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th June at The Brewery in Chiswell Street, London. It will cover all the major issues affecting independent schools today, with over 50 speakers will include Lord Adonis; Sir Richard Sykes; Michael Gove MP; David Laws MP; Andrew Hind; and Judith Rich OBE.
