Delays with DBS applications, compliance visits and updated guidance.
Delays with DBS applications ISC has been in touch with DBS to complain about the lengthy delays faced by numerous schools with the processing of DBS applications. In their March newsletter, DBS acknowledged that customers were facing long delays and confirmed they are working with the Metropolitan Police Service to reduce a backlog of applications.
DBS has advised ISC that schools should utilise the escalation route which is available where an applicant is experiencing employment risk and severe hardship as a result of lengthy delays. In such circumstances, schools should contact DBS with the name(s), application reference number(s) and the address including the postcode of the applicant(s) affected by police delays. More information can be found here.
Compliance visits DBS confirmed in their March newsletter that they will be visiting Registered Bodies to carry out compliance inspections against the Code of Practice, which was updated in November 2015.
