Changes since April 2015

  1. Revised ACAS Code of Practice (11 March 2015)

  2. Maximum penalty for breach of the national minimum wage increased to £20,000 in respect of each underpaid worker (6 May 2015)

  3. Exclusivity clauses in zero hour contracts no longer enforceable (26 May 2015)

  4. The Home Office updated their ‘employer’s guide to right to work checks’ (May 2015)

  5. Fit for work service rolled out (8 September 2015)

  6. Pension auto-enrolment for small employer (between 1 June 2015 and 1 April 2017)

Changes in force from October 2015

  1. National Minimum Wage rate increases (1 October 2015)

  2. Statements under the Modern Slavery Act (1 October 2015)

Upcoming changes

  1. New gender pay gap reporting requirements (March 2016)

  2. Introduction of the National Living Wage (April 2016)

  3. Employers will no longer be able to opt out of the earnings-related component of the state pension on behalf of their employees (6 April 2016)

  4. Tax-free childcare for working parents (expected early 2017)

  5. Increase in free entitlement from 15 to 30 hours for working parents (expected September 2017)

  6. Government plans to increase the penalties for failing to pay the national minimum wage and national living wage (date to be announced)
