GCSE and IGCSE exam results from 39,451 candidates at 550 Independent Schools Council (ISC) schools show that this year 31.4% of entries achieved grade A*. This compares with 29.5% of entries achieving A* in 2010, and is the seventh consecutive yearly rise.

This year’s A-level exam results from 32,032 candidates at 467 Independent Schools Council (ISC) schools show that 19.07% of entries from ISC pupils were awarded the grade A*, rising 0.9 percentage points on 2010. This compares with a national average of 8.2%.

The Independent Schools Council (ISC) has announced that its Chief Executive, David Lyscom, will be stepping down. This follows a review of ISC's role and functions, and agreement by the member Associations to a major change in ISC's structure.

A body which represents UK independent schools overseas has for the first time taken its membership to more than 100.
The Council of British International Schools (COBIS) has revealed the milestone as its 30th annual conference takes place in London.

The 2011 ISC Annual Census has revealed a significant rise in overseas pupils, highlighting the continuing global appeal of UK independent schools. An increase was also seen in boarding pupil numbers, up 1.7% among those schools completing the Census in the last two years, with 68,102 boarding pupils now in ISC schools.
