Representing 97% of independent, fee-paying schools in Scotland, SCIS is the foremost authority on independent schools north of the border, offering impartial information, advice and guidance to parents.  A comprehensive directory of independent schools in Scotland is produced every October and a new website has recently been launched at www.scis.org.uk

SCIS provides information about:

  • the choice, diversity, characteristics and strengths of independent schools in Scotland
  • the Scottish curriculum and examination system
  • mainstream and special needs schools
  • open days, school visits, questions to ask when visiting schools
  • entrance procedures, the admissions process, induction days
  • meeting the cost of school fees and applying for financial assistance

All schools in membership of SCIS are registered with the Scottish Government Schools Directorate and have had satisfactory inspection reports from Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education (HMIe) and the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care.
