Airport Security & Essential Documents

Security at international airports is very strict and there will be a number of items that you will not be permitted to carry in your hand luggage. Your airline will be able to provide full details. Allow plenty of time to check in for your flight and to pass through security controls.

Before arriving in the UK, you must ensure you have the right documents and the money you need. You must also carry the correct documentation in your hand luggage (as you may need them before you collect the luggage which you checked in), including:

  • valid passport, with visa or entry clearance if required
  • travel tickets
  • money
  • relevant health documents
  • letter of acceptance from the school
  • documentation to proove fees and living costs can be paid

As security is a high priority there may be more procedures to follow, depending on the security climate in the UK at the time of traveling.

On arrival at an airport in the UK, you must go through immigration control. There is one queue for European Economic Area and Swiss nationals, and one for other international travellers. After this you can collect your luggage from the carousel at the collection area, which will be displayed on an electronic board next to your flight number. With your luggage you must go through customs control.
