The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI)

ISC schools in England are inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).

The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) is the agency responsible for the inspection of schools in membership of the Independent Schools Council Associations. ISI is a body approved for the purpose of inspection under Section 162A of the Education Act 2005. As such, they report to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) on the extent to which schools meet statutory requirements. The quality of its service is monitored by Ofsted on behalf of the DCSF.

ISI is a not-for-profit organisation, led by a Board of Directors which includes representatives of the ISC Associations. Day to day management is the responsibility of the Chief Inspector who is also a member of the Board.

Inspection reports are published on the ISI website and each schools latest report can be accessed via our School Search facility.

Independent schools not affiliated to ISC in England and independent schools accredited to ISC in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are inspected through the national inspectorates in each country.
