School Fees
The average termly fee at an ISC school for 2008/2009 was £3,933 per term. In addition:
- The average termly day fee at a day school was 3,358
- The average termly day fee at a boarding school was £4,416
- The average termly boarding fee was £7,748
School fees are typically cheaper than the average in schools in the North and at prep schools.
School fees, excluding nurseries, increased by an average of 5.90% in 2009. This compares with a rise of 8.60% in the CPI education component in the year to January 09. Some two thirds of a school's costs are comprised of staff salaries. Teaching staff costs as a percentage of net fees were equal to 53% in 2009. In the school year 2008-9, electricity and gas prices remained high, despite the fall in crude oil prices later in the period and other costs associated with labour intensive service industries escalated at rates well in excess of the most common measure of inflation - RPI. ISC schools maintain low pupil teacher ratios to ensure that they cover a very broad curriculum. The teacher pupil ratio declined further in 2009 to 9.5. The continuing excellent examination results in 2008 are further evidence of the good work that school fees are put to. Overall ISC GCSE examination results showed that in 2008, 58.29 entries achieved grades of A or A*.
ISC fee rises are the lowest in paid for education
School fee increases at ISC schools are around two-thirds of those of all paid-for education. ISC school fees account for less that a third of overall private education expenditure. All other private education costs are therefore rising faster than those in ISC schools.
